When to Refer

  • When conservative treatments have been exhausted, and the patient's condition hasn't improved. 
  • If the patient exhibits symptoms such as persistent pain, weakness, numbness, or loss of function, it may be time to involve a neurosurgeon. 
  • If diagnostic imaging reveals abnormalities that suggest surgical intervention

Investigations Required

Before referring a patient, please ensure that relevant investigations have been conducted, including:


  • MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) of the brain or spine
  • CT (Computed Tomography) scan
  • X-rays of the affected area
  • EMG/NCS (Electromyography/Nerve Conduction Studies) for peripheral nerve disorders
  • CSF (Cerebrospinal Fluid) analysis, if indicated
